Professional Summary
Lawrence Travis earned a Ph.D. in criminal justice from S.U.N.Y. at Albany in 1982. He served as Research Analyst for the National Parole Institutes and as Research Director for the Oregon State Board of Parole. He joined the faculty of the criminal justice program in 1980. He is co-author of Changes in Sentencing and Parole Decision Making: 1976-1978, Policing in America: A Balance of Forces, and Introduction to Criminal Justice. He served as editor of Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies and Management. Dr. Travis retired from the faculty in 2015, but retains interest in policing, criminal justice policy reform, sentencing, and corrections. He continues to contribute to scholarly journals in criminal justice.
