Research and Practice Interests

My long-standing research interest is to elucidate the molecular genetic mechanisms that regulate mammary gland development and breast pathology, such as breast cancer. My lab uses a combination of mouse and human models, including 2D and 3D cell culture models, patient tissues, xenograft tumors, and genetically engineered mouse models. Using these tools, my research career has focused on identifying and characterizing novel tumor suppressors and oncogenes that regulate genome stability, DNA damage responses, and/or chromatin remodeling.

My lab also has long-standing collaborations that broadly fall into two categories: (1) drug discovery projects, wherein my lab performs pre-clinical efficacy trials for new cancer therapeutics and (2) impaired memory and cognition as they pertain to genetic risks or side effects from chemotherapy, with a particular focus on sex differences.

My second professional interest is in mentoring and professional development of trainees. To this end, I hold leadership roles in programs that support research experiences for undergraduates and professional development of postdoctoral fellows.
