Professional Summary

Dr. Walzer has long been recognized internationally as a leader in Pneumocystis research. His studies have mainly focused on immunopathogenesis and therapy of the infection. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and has been elected to membership in the American College of Physicians (Fellow), Infectious Disease Society of America (Fellow), American Federation for Clinical Research, Central Society for Clinical Research, American Society for Microbiology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, American Society for Parasitologists, American Thoracic Society, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, American Association of Immunologists and Sigma Xi. Dr. Walzer was awarded the Faculty Achievement Award from the University of Cincinnati in 1997. He  spent 2005-2006 at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine pursing a MSc Epidemiology to be better able to apply his basic research findings to HIV patients and other human populations. His published works include approximately 146 original publications, four books, 83 chapters, reviews, editorials and letters and 158 abstracts and presented papers.  In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Workshop on Opportunistic Protisit for his Pneumocystis achievements.
