Professional Summary

Dr. Jun Wang is currently an assistant professor in the Division of Environmental and Industrial Hygiene (EIH), Department of Environmental Health, College of Medicine, University of Cincinnati. He was an assistant professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, Hudson College of Public Health, Univerisity of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) from 2013 to 2019. While at OUHSC, Dr. Wang directed the Laboratory for Aerosol Exposure Science and Engineering Control (LAESEC), and taught several master and doctoral level industrial hygiene and environmental health courses.

After joined UC in 2020, Dr. Wang is overseeing Workplace Aerosol and Gaseous Lab (WANG Lab) in the Center for Health-Related Aerosol Studies (CHRAS). Dr. Wang is a certified industrial hygienist, a certified safety professional®, and a registered professional engineer. He is an active member and held various leadership positions in the American Industrial Hygiene Association, American Association for Aerosol Research, and several other academic and professional associations. His research received funding from CDC/NIOSH, USEPA, US Navy, and other state and local foundations. Dr. Wang published more than thirty peer-reviewed journal articles, two book chapters, more than fifty conference presentations and invited talks. He mentored several Ph.D. students and over twenty master and undergraduate students.

Research and Practice Interests

My research interests can be generally put into two categories: (1) traditional lab- and field-based environmental and industrial hygiene research: measure emission and exposure of aerosols and gases from conventional and emerging sources; develop innovative methodologies to quantify cytotoxicity, oxidative potential, and respiratory deposition of ultrafine aerosols and nanoparticles; design next-generation sensory detection and engineering control to reduce inhalation exposure to airborne toxins. (2) practical field- and community-based public health integrated research: utilize interdisciplinary approach to solve environmental and occupational health issues related to children, precarious workers, and other vulnerable populations; practice community-based participatory reserach to solve health disparities in these population; develop global occupational health and safety education programs for developing countries.
